The Wave op #1

#1 A. The Wave takes place in 1969 at a high school in Palo Alto,California.

B. Some clues that describe this date is the technology. Now we have computers, and in the book it said typewriters. Also, the teacher, Ben Ross, goes to the library to find information on a topic. Now, we use the Internet to research.

#2 The line that jumps out at me from chapters 1-4 is "In fact, there wasn't a single pen or pencil in her pocket book that wasn't worn down on the butt end from nervous gnawing. Still, it beat smoking." (pg. 1, The Wave) It jumps out at me, because it shows the time period. High-schoolers were smoking and the terminology such as pocket book gives away the time period.

#3 What do you think the experiment is going to be? Why?

Betty Ann... You can't erase all mistakes

1. I think the saddest part in Betty Ann was when everyone mocked her about the Queen of Eangland eating watermaellon because Betty is just trying to fit in but isn't doing so. I don't think it was O.K that they mocked her but if they looked like the Queen in a nicer way that would have been better.

2. I think if were in her class I would've spoken up when the class was mocking the water mellon part because that shouldn't have been funny in a mean way. Also if I were the girls who put the note in lunch I don't think I would've reminded her about the water mellon or just not put a note at all.

3. I think the morale of the story is that if you make a mistake in life, you can't erase it. So make good decisions while you can.

Seventh Grade by Gary Soto

1. The line that really stands out to me is "Frenchie oh wewe gee in September," because it clearly show that Victor can't speak French. It also made me laugh because it sounded funny and childish.

2. I connected with this line because sometimes I raise my hand in class to something I think I know, but then it comes out really wrong. I also connected with the begging when he had to stand in line for 1/2 an hour to get his schedule because I had to go through that at when I was at Standley. It to was funny because he had to wait in line for so long and then there's just a wobbly old table.

Test... a small wacky story

1. The sentence that stood out to me from Test was; And they dragged Robert Procter out the door, knees stiff, feet dragging, his rubber heels sliding along the two grooves worn into the floor. This sentence stood out to me because I could really see what happened in that description. It also takes a moment afterwords to realize what the author is trying to say. I interpretated it by other people getting dragged out of the room in the same spot which created the two grooves worn into the floor.

2. I don't think the government should use hypnosis in the drivers test becuase then the government could change the drivers life around. Also it could be more dangerous because it would seem realistic and then the driver wouldn't want to drive anymore. Or wasn't realistic, the driver could possibly get into a collision easier by false snse of alarm.

3. I interpretated the sentence by "How do any of us know," by they don't know what went on there in his head. Or they just wanted to mess around with him and make it feel like he was still under hypnosis. If they were messing around with him, I think that would be illegal.

Planet Earth

Today in class we watched a movie called Planet Earth. It was about the earth and all different life forms that go on about it. The episode we watched was about the plains. The plains are covered in grass. Grass can grow back no matter what happens to it essentially. Animals that live on the plains include: Mongarian Gazzels and wildebeast. In the winter and the plains turn into an arctic tundra, these are some of the animals who live there: Snow Geese, Arctic Fox, Arctic Wolves, Carribou, and Bison. Some of the cool stuff I learned was:

  • There are about two million wildebeast in East Africa

  • Grass is the populated plant on Earth. It covers about 1/4 of the Earth. It can almost grow back no matter what happens to it.

  • Elephant grass is the tallest in the world. Its name comes from it being just as tall as elephants.

  • Mongarian Gazells were born to run. They come together once a year to mate.

  • Snow Geese spend their winter in Mexico, then spend spring migrating to the tundra reigons. The distance of the migration is about three thousand miles. They incubate their eggs for three weeks which hatch at the end of summer. As soon as the chicks are old enough to swim, their parents take them to the water for saftey.

  • The Arctic Fox wait all winter for the geese to come, then go and steal some of the eggs for food. They stash just enough to last until the next time the geese come. Arctic Fox also take baby chicks after they are out of their egg.

  • Arctic wolves eat Carribou and hunt for the smaaler one because they're easier to catch.

  • Carribou can travel one thousand miles in a day which makes it hareder for the wolves to catch.

  • There were once sixty million bison and now there are about one thousand because men having been hunting them. A male bison wheighs about one ton(two thousand pounds!).

  • Pygmy hogs are the smallest tipe out of all other pigs. The newborn babys coulp fit in a human palm.

  • Elephants are the dominant animals in the day time because of their size. But inthe night lions are because of their night vision. An elephants night vision is just as good as ours.

  • Lions have supurior night vision. They normally don't hunt elephants accept in extreme cases. When they do hunt elephants, the whole pack joins in. A small elephant is enough food for thirhty lions for about one week.

My favorite book last year... The Supernaturalist

My favorite book last year was The Super Naturalists by Eion Colfer. I liked it because there were a lot of futuristic things such as, advanced weapons, advanced medical equipment, and extreme illegal drag-racing . The plot of this book was that there were parasite creatures that sucked the life from people, but they were invisible to everyone except the super naturalists. The super naturalist were a group of people who went around destroying the parasites in hopes of saving people. While running out on the roof tops getting to their destination they get in trouble a couple times and have to worm their way out.
I would recommend this book to people who like high suspense but a good ending. It is good for boys and girls ages 8-13.
